Pilot experience of mechanical pretreatment of end-of-life wind turbine rotor blades: cutting down and coarse shredding

In the frame of LIFE-BRIO project a pilot experience of pretreatment of end-of-life wind turbine rotor blades has been carried in Glasgow (UK). This demonstration of mechanical recycling has consisted of cutting down the rotor blades into smaller pieces using a hydraulic shear and coarse shredding of the blades fragments. Afterwards, this recycling process will be completed subjecting the shredded material to specific conditioning and separation stages in order to recover resources for new applications.
